Want some healthy snacks? Well, dig into this mummy jiggly fruity jelly that is easy to make. I’m sure you, your family and friends will like it.

Just saw this recipe in a back issue of yummy magazine and I love it so I decided to share this with HeartyCravings readers. 

*****

Fruity Almond Jelly Recipe

INGREDIENTS:
4 cups cold water, divided
3tbsp or 3 envelopes unflavored gelatin
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup evaporated milk
2 tsp almond extract
2 mangoes, sliced
4 cups lychees, quarted (syrup reserved) / peaches
2 kiwis, peeled and sliced into half rounds
8 pcs Cherries, halved, for garnish

PROCEDURE:
1. In a cup or bowl, place 1 cup cold water. Sprinkle gelatine and let it stand for 5 ,inutes. Transfer to a saucepan. Add the remaining water and suger. Dissolve gelatin and sugar, stirring continuously over low heat.
2. Add milk and almond extract; mix well. Transfer mixture to 2 (9x13x1-inch) rectangular glass dishes. Refrigerate overnight or until almond jelly sets.
3. Slice almond jelly into 1-inch squares.
4. Scoop flesh of the mangoes into balls; set aside.
5. To serve, place 1/2 cup xrushed ice per bowl. Top with 8 almond jelly squares, 4 lychees or sliced peaches, 3 mango balls, and 4 kiwi slices. Drizzle with 2 tbsp lychee/peach syrup and garnish with cherry halves.

SERVINGS: 8 servings

*** if you don’t like some of the fruits, like me , you could also change it. Try apple, mango, cherries, grapes or orange. You could also add sago, nata de coco or black pearls if you want. It’s really up to your taste.

Enjoy this yummy and easy to make recipe everyone. Have a HeartyCravings!!!

One of the food I discovered this summer was the yummy Palitaw. Yes, you heard that right. It’s my first time to sample it. Anyways, Palitaw is a small sweet flat rice cake eaten in the Philippines. And I know most, if not all, Filipino had tried it but in my defense I’m kind of picky when it comes to food and I don’t like the plain white look of it. But last April when I was in Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental I got a chance to try this kakanin and all I could say is — deliciouso!

Anyways, here’s the recipe on how to cook Palitaw ( Rice Cake):

Ingredients:

1 cup Glutinous rice flour ( Malagkit Rice )

1/2 cup of water

1/2 kilo Brown Sugar

Fresh grated coconut

Toasted sesame seeds

Procedure:

Mix the flour and water until the dough is formed.

Take 2 tablespoon of dough and roll it into a ball, then flatten it with the palm of your hand.

Then put the Palitaw in simmering water until they begin to float.

Remove the Palitaw from the pot and let it dry for a minute or 2.

Dunk the palitaw in the sugar-sesame seed mixture and sprinklee it with grated coconut.

Viola! You now have a yummy palitaw.

*** Recipe grabbed from an old Pinoy Recipe Book

Blackbeard’s Seafood is part of the Red Crab Group of Restaurants so expect scrumptious food and great service.

Last week, together with some blogger friends, I was able to visit and enjoy the offerings of Blackbeard’s Seafood Island at Alabang branch , thanks to Alex and Ms. Xchosa.

I remembered the first time I was able to dine at Blackbeard’s Seafood Island it was 3 or 4 years ago at their Market-Market branch. I was really impressed with their boodle feast at that time, where your food is serve in a banana leaves for everyone to eat, a.k.a boodle fighting, just like in the military. It was a one of a kind experience that was stamped on my mind as it is the only restaurant I know who have this concept. I love their Tali Beach Boodle Feast!

Well, our gastronomic adventure started with Blackbeard’s Seafood Island famous pica-pica, the Pinoy Nachos. Pinoy Nachos is made up of deep fried wanton wrappers, topped with guacamole, sweet mangoes, onions and strips of dried squids/pork. It was crunchy and really appetizing.

The Tuna Crabmeat Sisig was served next. Then the Crispy Sisig con Bagnet, Garlic and Cheese Overload Oysters, Prawns in Butter Garlic, our drinks and then I got lost with all the seafood being served. Well, here are some photos of the yummy food from Blackbeard’s Seafood Island:

Garlic and Cheese Overload Oyster (P295) – freshly baked oyster overload with cheese. Deliciouso!

Prawns in Butter Garlic (P425) – prawns sauteed in butter & garlic. I love the sweet and spicy taste of the shrimps.

San Mig Clams (P145). It taste good and diffenitely unique. It’s not your usually soup as it has beer in it.

Sampler de Grande (P685) – It is consists of black marlin, rawns, lumot (seaweeds), tahong, crabs, liempo, ensaladang manga and salted egg.

Blackbeard’s best seller, Tali Beach (P735 3-4persons). Consists of grilled chicken, shrimps, liempo, squids, tilapia, tahong and crabs, grilled tomatoes, lato, manga, pakwan with steamed rice. You could also have it good for 5-6 persons for P1,150.

All-in-all it was a great and yummy beach-like dining experience. Blackbeard’s Seafood Island has a relaxing beach ambience and perfect for family and friends. The Place – perfect. The Food – really good especially if you’re craving for seafood. The crew – friendly and also good. I’ll diffenitely recommend it to everyone. And aren’t you curious with the boodle feast?

Since last November 2010, I fell in love with Food Magazine. I’ve been buying their back issues at SM for their Food menu guide, cook ‘s nook and home basics contents. Yes, as in Food magazine offers the easiest recipes ever, like the easy toaster oven recipes in their August 2010 issue. I so love it!

Anyways, I tried the toaster oven recipes and I could say it’s really good. It’s a great alternative if you don’t have a standard oven as it is easy and fast.

Well, don’t worry as I’ll post some of their published recipes that I’ve tried doing here in the following days. Tah! Tah!

Well, since I’m under the weather right now as I have colds and flu I’ve been craving for some hot batchoy and arroz caldo (rice soup). Yummy! The hot soup is perfect for getting warm especially in this cold weather.

Anyways, since we are having some of this delicious food I want to share with everyone how to cook Batchoy. Nom, Nom, Nom. Here’s the recipe for Batchoy:
1 medium Onion thinly sliced
1 small piece ginger, cut in fine strips.
1 tablespoon patis (Fish Sauce)
2 packs Batchoy (or sub with misua) noodles
1 tbsp. oil
1 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper

How to cook Batchoy :

One of the places I frequented since I was back in Bacolod City is the Frankie’s Crepes & Pancake House at the MetroDome Araneta.

Its just a small place at the far side of MetroDome that you won’t even know existed if you are in the area. Actually, we had a hard time finding it even though MD is really small. Anyways, what I love with Frankie’s is the ambience of the place. It feels homey and refreshing at the same time.

Frankie’s offers Pancake, Crepes, Potato Salad, Sandwiches and Pasta at an affordable price. Aside from that they also offer original and rare Garden jams of tropical fruits from Negros Island. They have Pomelo Orange, Tomato Apple, Guyabano and Kalumpit Jam ranging from Php 160 – 180.

Every Sunday, they have a Pancake All-You-Can for just Php 65. And I tell you you it’s worth it. I had 7 pcs of pancakes while my niece garbled 10 pcs plus a potato salad. I don’t know how she did it and still crave for more. Unfortunately we had to attend Mass so she just settled for 5 orders (2pcs) of Pancakes. Anyways, I guarantee you’ll definitely satisfy your cravings for good food at an affordable price at Frankie’s.

It was a boring afternoon so I asked Chelle if she wants to go food tripping and of course she said yes right away. Well, since I’m craving for pasta while she’s craving for some cakes we’ve decided to go to Bascon Cafe at Lacson St. Bacolod.

It was my first time to visit the Cafe and I could say the food is delicious and the place is really great. The Cafe ambience is relaxing and inviting at the same time. It’s a place where you could chitchat with your friends and family over a cup of coffee and yummy pastries at understandable prices! Yes, great food, great place, great service and great prices all rolled into one.

Well, we ordered Gambeni Pasta (shrimps with tomato and lots of garlic) Php130, their best-seller Baked Chicken Lasagna (Php115) and Roast Beef Sandwich (Php85). I now understand why a lot of my friends rave about Bascon Cafe Lasagna. It was really yummily delicious! But there’s a down side with it for the serving of their Baked Chicken Lasagna is small, unlike the serving of the Gambeni Pasta. Argh! I think it’s their strategy so you will buy another one, just kidding! My companion said that the roast beef sandwich is also delicious, but their Gambeni Pasta is just okay for me.

Anyways, all-in-all Bascon Cafe is a great place to hang-out with free Wi-Fi. The food is great, the crew is friendly and the prices are reasonable. I will definitely recommend it to everyone. It’s a great restaurant find in Bacolod.

Have a Heart Cravings!!!

The first Mango Tree Bistro in the Philippines opens a few weeks back at the Trinoma Mall and I had the privilege to attend the event. It was a fun-filled night of good music and great food. Chef Pitaya Phanpehnsophon also showed us how to make his signature salad and he also introduced us to Thai common spices like kaffir lime leaves and galangal.

The first Mango Tree Restaurant opened its doors in 1994. Situated in the heart of Bangkok in a beautiful Thai house built during the reign King Rama VI almost 100 years ago. It was named Mango Tree because of the mango tree planted in the courtyard area. Mango Tree has recently made debuts in Dubai, Macao, Tokyo, London, Kuching, Busan, with Manila’s Mango Tree Bistro as the newest location.

“Our distinctive and delicious flavor comes from blending the perfect combination and balance of fresh herbs, an array of spices, and fresh ingredients. Thai food is naturally medicinal. It brings health and vigor to every meal. This careful and artful blending of sweet, sour and spicy makes a harmonious taste for each dish and requires a good understanding of the primary ingredients.”

the yummy tiramisu

Mango Tree Bistro menu also includes authentic Thai salads, over 4 pages of delicious Thai entrees and flavorful curries, famous grilled items from Thailand with unique taste from marinate and dipping sauce, and vegetarian dishes that everyone can eat and I know would surely love.

The place has a relaxing ambiance and great-friendly crew. So, check it out and chill at Mango Tree Bistro 3rd level of TriNoma Mall. Let’s Party!!!
